Magneto was right: X- Men First Class

X-Men-First-Class

X-Men: First Class is a 2011 superhero film, based on the X-Men characters appearing in Marvel Comics. The film was directed by Matthew Vaughn and produced by Bryan Singer, and acts as a prequel to the X-Men film series. The story is set primarily in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier (Professor X) and Erik Lensherr (Magneto), and the origin of their groups—the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants, respectively. The film stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr, leading an ensemble cast that includes Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, ZoĂ« Kravitz, Nicholas Hoult,Jason Flemyng, and Lucas Till.

Producer Lauren Shuler Donner first thought of a prequel based on the young X-Men during the production of X2, and later producer Simon Kinberg suggested to 20th Century Fox an adaptation of the comic series of the same name, though the film does not follow the comic closely. Bryan Singer, who had directed both X-Men and X2, became involved with the project in 2009, but he had to only produce and co-write First Class due to other projects. Matthew Vaughn, who was previously attached to both X-Men: The Last Stand and Thor, became the director, and also wrote the final script with his writing partner Jane Goldman. Source: Wikipedia.

Jor-El from Superman (1978)

superman1978

Marlon Brando played Jor-El in the 1978 film Superman, which Alexander Salkind, his son Ilya Salkind, and their business partner Pierre Spengler produced and which Richard Donner directed. Susannah York as Lara, Superman’s biological mother on Krypton.

On the dying planet Krypton, using evidence provided by scientist Jor-El, the Ruling Council sentences three attempted insurrectionists, General Zod, Ursa and Non, to “eternal living death” in the Phantom Zone. Despite his eminence, Jor-El is unable to convince the Council of his belief that Krypton will soon explode. To save his infant sonKal-El, Jor-El launches a spacecraft containing the child towards Earth, a distant planet with a suitable atmosphere, and where Kal-El’s dense molecular structure will give him superhuman powers. Shortly after the launch, Krypton is destroyed.

In the movie, Jor-El is shown wearing the iconic “S”-shield symbol as the family crest of the House of El, resembling an Earth “S” by coincidence. The name “Superman” is later coined by Lois Lane due to the resemblance. In tandem, other Kryptonians are seen wearing their own individualized family crests. Originally thought up by Brando himself and suggested on-set, this origin of the famous Superman symbol has been used in many stories since. In the current comics, however, the shield is the Kryptonian symbol for “hope,” and not only is it worn by Jor-El in a similar manner to Brando of the first feature film, but it adorns all manner of Kryptonian flags, clothing, spaceships, and equipment. Star Wars Rebels

“This is Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi order and the Republic have fallen, with the dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi: Trust in the force. Do not return to the temple. That time has passed, and our future is uncertain. We will each be challenged… Our trust, our faith, our friendships. But we must persevere, and in time, a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you… Always.”

rebels

Star Wars Rebels is an American animated television series produced by Lucasfilm and Lucasfilm Animation with the assistance of Disney. Set 14 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and 5 years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Rebels takes place during an era when the Galactic Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights while a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking form. The visual style of Star Wars Rebels is inspired by the original Star Wars trilogy concept art by Ralph McQuarrie.

It premiered as a 44 minute movie, Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, on October 3, 2014 on Disney Channels worldwide prior to the premiere of the series. Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman have all been announced as executive producers of season 1. Kinberg has stated that the first season would contain 16 episodes and that the series will feature new characters along with ones from the original trilogy. Weisman left the show after season 1.

Cast and characters

He is sarcastic but also distraught over the destruction of his culture and former way of life.

Taylor Gray as Ezra Bridger:
A charismatic 14-year-old con artist, thief, and pickpocket living on the Outer Rim world of Lothal as the Empire strip mines the resources of his homeworld for Sienar’s TIE fighter production. Unbeknownst to him, he is able to use the Force, and has used it to get out of certain predicaments. Stealing to survive, he has no real loyalty to anyone.

Steven Blum as Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios:
A seasoned and intelligent Lasat enforcer who serves as the muscle of the Ghost crew. His physical appearance is based on Ralph McQuarrie’s original conceptual artwork for Chewbacca.

Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren:
A Mandalorian with expert knowledge of weapons, combat, and explosives. She is also a graffiti artist who tags Imperial facilities with anti-Imperial propaganda after an attack, decorates her quarters on the Ghost, and frequently modifies her armor with conflicting color schemes though her signature colors appear to be purple and magenta; even her hair has purple and orange highlights. Fixated on color, she wears clothing covered in flecks of paint. Executive Producer Dave Filoni revealed in an interview that her design was based on an idea he had for The Clone Wars.

Vanessa Marshall as Hera Syndulla:
The Twi’lek who owns and pilots the Ghost. She is the mother-figure of the crew, and brings them all together.

Jason Isaacs as the Inquisitor:
An unnamed Pau’an who wields a double-bladed lightsaber and is tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi left in the galaxy.[14] His unique lightsaber design was based on an unused concept from The Force Unleashed video game.

A high ranking agent of the Imperial Security Bureau who serves under the Inquisitor.

Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian

James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi:
A Jedi Master who currently resides on the Tatooine system. His hologram is first seen in a holocron when he announces the fall of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Council after Order 66.

Keith Szarabajka as Cikatro Vizago:
A Devaronian and chief scoundrel of the Lothal underground. The crew of the Ghost occasionally runs errands and smuggles goods for Vizago in exchange for credits and intel.

Anthony Daniels as C-3PO:
A protocol droid that helped the Republic forces during the Clone Wars. Following its fall, C-3PO is now under the ownership of the crew of the Tantive IV.

He served the Republic during the Clone Wars under the ownership of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker; C1-10PR (“Chopper”), Hera’s astromech, crafted from spare parts, he is very irritable and seems to not care about his owners. His physical appearance is heavily modeled on the original Ralph McQuarrie conceptual artwork for R2-D2.

The Empire Strikes Back 34th Anniversary: Boba Fett

boba-vader

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (also known as The Empire Strikes Back) is a 1980 American epic space opera film directed by Irvin Kershner, produced by Gary Kurtz, and written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, with George Lucas writing the film’s story and serving as executive producer. The film is set three years after Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The Empire Strikes Back was released on May 21, 1980.

Boba Fett

Boba Fett was a Mandalorian warrior and bounty hunter. He was a clone of the famed Jango Fett, created in 32 BBY as the first of many Fett replicas designed to become part of the Grand Army of the Republic, and was raised as Jango’s son. Jango taught Boba much, training him to become a skilled bounty hunter as was his father-figure before him. In 22 BBY, Jango was killed at the Battle of Geonosis, which opened the Clone Wars. Just a boy, Boba was forced to grow up and took to traveling the galaxy. Later, he became a bounty hunter and took assignments from beings such as Jabba the Hutt, and achieved notoriety despite his young age.

boba-fett

When the Empire was formed in 19 BBY, it was the perfect environment for Fett. Fett became known as the galaxy’s best bounty hunter of the next several decades, often working for the Empire. He collaborated with Darth Vader on several occasions, and the Sith Lord even developed a grudging respect for Fett. Fett made his most notable bounty in 3 ABY, when he captured Rebel hero Han Solo, and delivered him to Jabba the Hutt.

A year later, during the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon, Fett fought against the group of Rebel rescuers. However, he was inadvertently knocked into the mouth of the Sarlacc by Solo. Though no one in recorded history had ever escaped from the Sarlacc, Fett was able to escape, though not unscathed. Thanks to his iron will and Mandalorian armor, he was able to fight his way out of the beast’s belly, and later killed the Sarlacc. Back in action, he resumed his work as a bounty hunter.

The Empire Strikes Back 34th Anniversary: The Wampa

The Wampa

Wampa ice creatures were carnivorous predatory reptomammals indigenous to the remote Outer Rim Territories ice planet Hoth. The bipedal beasts stood over two meters in height with shaggy white fur constantly stained by the blood and guts of slaughtered prey. Wampas were armed with jagged yellow teeth and deadly claws. Primarily solitary hunters, wampas occasionally hunted in packs, preferring to ambush their prey from the camouflage of Hoth’s snow banks and blizzards. Stunned victims were carried back to the creatures’ lairs, typically large ice caves, where the wampas ate at their leisure. The planet’s omnivorous tauntauns formed the bulk of the wampas’ prey, although they would attack anything they encountered. The Alliance to Restore the Republic’s Echo Base on Hoth came under constant wampa assaults in 3 ABY.

While rarely seen away from their remote homeworld, wampas were known to have participated in illegal gladiatorial combat venues. They were highly valued among big-game hunters for the challenge that came with hunting the creatures, as well as for their pelts, stuffed heads, and other miscellaneous souvenirs that commanded high prices on the black market. Wampas were later protected under legislation to prevent endangered species from falling into extinction by the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.

wampa-behind-the-scenes

In The Empire Strikes Back, one wampa attacks Luke and eats his tauntaun. Several other Wampa sequences were planned for Empire, but they were ultimately cut. For Star Wars creator and producer George Lucas, the hardest effect to pull off was a physical one – that of the wampa monster suit. Because they couldn’t get it to look right in the Original Theatrical release, the filmmakers did not shoot the wampa with a full reveal. It was only until the Special Editions when the wampa would get his deserved big screen showcase with the help of the CGI effects made by ILM.

Han and Leia

Three years later in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back,  Princess Leia now leads a contingent that includes Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in a hidden base on an icy planet of the Hoth system. She later helps with the evacuation of Hoth during an Imperial attack, remaining at her station until Han Solo forces her to leave with him. She flees with C-3PO, Han and Chewbacca on their Millennium Falcon ship. Although they are pursued by Imperial TIE fighters, they dodge their fire by flying into an asteroid field when the hyperdrive for the Falcon breaks down. Romance blossoms between Leia and Han during their flight from the Empire; while hiding in the stomach of a space slug, she finally shares a kiss with the Corellian smuggler. Later, when they stop at Bespin for repairs, Lando Calrissian turns them over to the Empire to which Darth Vader plans to use them as bait for Luke Skywalker. Han is also used as a test subject for the carbon freezing chamber meant for Luke, and it is there that Leia finally confesses her love for Han. Vader then gives the frozen Han to bounty hunter Boba Fett.

In the Rebel Alliance base on the small icy planet of the Hoth System…

1

2

Han: Well, Your Highness, guess this is it.
Leia: That’s right.
Han: Don’t get all mushy on me. So long, Princess.

3

Leia (running after him): Han.
Han: Yes, Your Highnessness.
Leia: I thought you had decided to stay.
Han: The bounty hunter we ran into in Ord Mantell changed my mind.
Leia: Han, we need you.

4

Han: We need?
Leia: Yes.
Han: What about you need?
Leia: I need? I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Han: You probably don’t.
Leia: What precisely am I supposed to know?
Han: Come on. You want me to stay because of the way you feel about me.
Leia: Yes. You’re a great help to us. You’re a natural leader.
Han: No. That’s not it. Come on. Come on.
Leia: You’re imagining things.
Han: Am I? Then why are you following me? Afraid I’d leave without giving you a goodbye kiss?

5

Leia: I’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee.
Han: I can arrange that. You could use a good kiss!

Later in Luke’s chamber…

6

Han: Well, Your Worship… Looks like you managed to keep me around for a little while longer.
Leia: I had nothing to do with it. General Rieekan thinks it’s dangerous for any ships to leave until we’ve activated the energy field.
Han: That’s a good story. I think you just can’t bear to let a gorgeous guy like me out of your sight.

7

Leia: I don’t know where you get your delusions, laser brain.
Han (to Chewbacca): Laugh it up, fuzzball, but you didn’t see us alone in the south passage. She expressed her true feelings for me.

8

Leia: My… Why, you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder!

9

Han: Who’s scruffy-lookin’?
Han (to Luke): I must have hit close to the mark to get her riled up like that, huh, kid?

10

Leia: I guess you don’t know everything about women yet. (Leia gives a kiss in Luke)

11

Leia: Would it help if I got out and pushed?
Han: It might.

12

Leia: This bucket of bolts will never get past that blockade.
Han: This baby’s got a few surprises left in her. Switch over. Let’s hope we don’t have a burnout. See?
Leia: Someday you’ll be wrong. I hope I’m there to see it.
Han: Punch it!

13

Han: Prepare to jump to light speed.
C-3P0: But, sir!
Leia: They’re getting closer.
Han: Oh, yeah? Watch this.

14

Leia: Watch what?
Han: I think we’re in trouble.
C-3P0: If I may say so… I noticed earlier the hyperdrive motivator has been damaged. It’s impossible to go to light speed.
Han: We’re in trouble.

Leia: Asteroids.
Han: Chewie, set 271.
Leia: What are you doing? You’re not actually going into an asteroid field?
Han: They’d be crazy to follow us, wouldn’t they?
Leia: You don’t have to do this to impress me.
C-3P0 Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720-to-1.
Han: Never tell me the odds.
Han: You said you wanted to be around when I made a mistake. This could be it.
Leia: I take it back. We’re gonna get pulverized if we stay out here much longer.
Han: Ain’t gonna argue with that. I’m going closer to one of the big ones.
Leia: Closer?

15

Leia (falling over Han): Let go. Let go, please.
Han: Don’t get excited.
Leia: Captain, being held by you isn’t quite enough to get me excited.

16

Han: Sorry, sweetheart. I haven’t got time for anything else.

17

Han: Hey, Your Worship, I’m only trying to help.
Leia: Would you please stop calling me that?
Han: Sure, Leia.
Leia: You make it so difficult sometimes.
Han: I do. I really do.
Leia: You could be a little nicer though.
Han: Admit it. Sometimes you think I’m all right.
Leia: Occasionally, maybe when you aren’t acting like a scoundrel.

18

Han: Scoundrel? I like the sound of that.

19

Leia: Stop that.
Han: Stop what?
Leia: Stop that. My hands are dirty.
Han: My hands are dirty too. What are you afraid of?
Leia: Afraid?
Han: You’re trembling.

20

Leia: I’m not trembling.
Han: You like me because I’m a scoundrel. There aren’t enough scoundrels in your life.
Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han: I’m a nice man.
Leia: No, you’re not.

21

(Han kisses Leia for just a moment)
C-3P0: Sir, sir! (interrupting the kiss) I’ve isolated the reverse power flux coupling.

22

Han: Thank you. Thank you very much.

Later in Cloud City, Han is frozen in Carbonite…

23

24

Leia: I love you!
Han: I know.

RoboCop 1987

robocop-1987

The future of law enforcement

RoboCop is a 1987 American science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner. The film stars Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Dan O’Herlihy, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, and Ronny Cox. Set in a crime-ridden Detroit, Michigan in the near future, RoboCop centers on police officer Alex Murphy (Weller) who is brutally murdered by a gang of criminals and subsequently revived by the malevolent mega-corporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) as a superhuman cyborg law enforcer known as “RoboCop”.

RoboCop includes themes regarding the media, gentrification, corruption, authoritarianism, greed, privatization, capitalism, identity, dystopia, and human nature. It received positive reviews and was cited as one of the best films of 1987, spawning a franchise that included merchandise, two sequels, a television series, two animated TV series, a television mini-series, video games and a number of comic book adaptations/crossovers. The film was produced for a relatively modest $13 million.

1

Some Facts about RoboCop:

1. RoboCop was written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner. Edward Neumeier stated that he first got the idea of RoboCop when he walked past a poster for Blade Runner. He asked his friend what the film was about and his friend replied, “It’s about a cop hunting robots”. This then sparked the idea for him about a robot cop.

2. RoboCop marked the first major Hollywood production for Dutch director Paul Verhoeven. Although he had been working in the Netherlands for more than a decade and directed several films to great acclaim (e.g. Soldier of Orange), Verhoeven moved away in 1984 to seek broader opportunities in Hollywood. When he first glanced through the script, he discarded it in disgust. Afterwards, his wife picked the script from the bin and read it more thoroughly, convincing him that the plot had more substance than he originally assumed.

3. Before Peter Weller was cast, Rutger Hauer and Arnold Schwarzenegger were favored to play RoboCop by Verhoeven and the producers, respectively. However, each man’s large frame would have made it difficult for either of them to move in the cumbersome RoboCop suit, which had been modeled on hockey gear and designed to be large and bulky. Weller won the role both because Verhoeven felt that he could adequately convey pathos with his lower face, and because Weller was especially lithe and could more easily move inside the suit than a bigger actor.

4. Filming started on August 6, 1986, and ended on October 20, 1986. The scenes depicting Murphy’s “death” were not filmed until the following January (1987), some months after principal shooting had ceased.

5. The task of creating the RoboCop suit was given to Rob Bottin. Having come off doing the special effects for John Carpenter’s The Thing, the studio decided that Bottin would be the ideal person to create the RoboCop suit. A budget of up to a million dollars was given towards the completion of the suit, making it the most expensive item on the set. Six suits were made in total: three regular and three showing damage.

6. The original gun for RoboCop was a Desert Eagle but this was deemed too small. A Beretta 93R was heavily modified by Ray Williams of Freshour Machine, Texas city, Texas, who extended the gun barrel to make it look bigger so as to be proportional to Robocop’s hand. The gun holster itself was a standalone piece that was not integrated into the suit. Off screen technicians would operate the device on cue by pulling cables that would force the holster to open up and allow the gun to be placed inside.

7. The 1986 Ford Taurus was used as the police cruiser in the movie, due to its then-futuristic design. As of May 2012, RoboCop’s Taurus is on display at the Branson Auto Museum in Branson, Missouri.

8. The ED-209 stop motion model was designed by Craig Davies, who also built the full size models, and animated by Phil Tippett, a veteran stop-motion animator. As one of the setpieces of the movie, the ED-209’s look and animated sequences were under the close supervision of director Paul Verhoeven, who sometimes acted out the robot’s movements himself. ED-209 was voiced by producer Jon Davison. Davies and Tippett would go on to collaborate on many more projects.

9. In one scene, Emil (Paul McCrane) attempts to run down RoboCop but instead accidentally drives into a vat of toxic waste, causing the flesh to melt off his face and hands. These effects were also conceived and designed by Bottin, who was inspired by Rick Baker’s work on The Incredible Melting Man, and who dubbed the RoboCop effects “the Melting Man” as an homage to the production.

10. The movie was originally given an X rating by the MPAA in 1987 due to its graphic violence, in sharp contrast to most other X-rated movies that received the rating due to strong sexual content. To appease the requirements of the ratings board, Verhoeven reduced blood and gore in the most violent scenes in the movie, including ED-209’s shooting of Kinney in the boardroom, Boddicker’s gang executing Murphy with shotguns, and the final battle with Boddicker (in which RoboCop stabs him in the neck with his neural spike and Boddicker’s blood splatters onto RoboCop’s chest).
