Cinderella 2015

Cinderella2015

Cinderella is a 2015 American romantic fantasy film, directed by Kenneth Branagh, with a screenplay written by Chris Weitz. The film is a live-action re-imagining of Charles Perrault’s eponymous folk tale and Walt Disney’s 1950 animated film of the same name. The film stars Lily James as the titular character, with Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgård, Holliday Grainger, Derek Jacobi, and Helena Bonham Carter. It is produced by David Barron, Simon Kinberg and Allison Shearmur for Walt Disney Pictures.

Cinderella had its world premiere on February 13, 2015, at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival and was released in theaters on March 13, 2015. It grossed over $542 million worldwide, becoming Branagh’s highest-grossing film to date, and received mostly positive reviews. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design at the 88th Academy Awards.

There are numerous ancient myths and stories containing Cinderella motifs, dating as far back as an Egyptian tale from the first century BC. The modern version of Cinderella was created by French author Charles Perrault, whose fairy tale was first published in 1697. It has since been the basis of and inspiration behind innumerable operas, ballet, plays and films.

The first film version was seven minutes long, directed by George Méliès in France in 1899. The first Hollywood adaptation was Paramount Pictures’ 1914 silent film, starring Mary Pickford in the title role. Disney’s classic animated version of Cinderella was released in 1950. It was a major box office success, and in 2008 was named the ninth-greatest animated film of all time by the American Film Institute. Other modern films based on the Cinderella concept include The Glass Slipper (1955), The Slipper and the Rose (1976), Ever After (1998) and A Cinderella Story (2004).

Let’s twist: Pulp Fiction Dance Scene

pulpfiction

We already knew John Travolta could dance. He discoed and hand-jived his way to stardom in Saturday Night Fever and Grease. But in the 1980s Travolta’s career fizzled and we sort of forgot about him because — let’s be honest, here — we have pretty short attention spans. But in 1994, Travolta made his comeback in Quentin Tarantino’s stylized crime film Pulp Fiction. His smooth, understated twists to Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell” were so cool, we hardly noticed his weight gain and thinning hair. If we were coked up Uma Thurman, we’d let our Mob-boss boyfriend set us up with John Travolta any day. Source text: Time – Top 10 Movie Dance Scenes.

Let’s twist again with John Travolta and Uma Thurman. Click to listen You Never Can Tell, by Chuck Berry, from Pulp Fiction original soundtrack (midi cortesy Dream Gifs).

Shall We Dance?

shall we dance

Shall We Dance? is a 2004 American film that is a remake of the award-winning 1996 Japanese film of the same name.

John Clark (Richard Gere) is a lawyer with a charming wife (Beverly, played by Susan Sarandon) and loving family, who nevertheless feels that something is missing as he makes his way every day through the city. Each evening on his commute home through Chicago, John sees a beautiful woman staring with a lost expression through the window of a dance studio. Haunted by her gaze, John impulsively jumps off the train one night, and signs up for ballroom dancing lessons, hoping to meet her. At first, it seems like a mistake. His teacher turns out to be not Paulina (Jennifer Lopez), but the older Miss Mitzi (Anita Gillette), and John proves to be just as clumsy as his equally clueless classmates Chic (Bobby Cannavale) and Vern (Omar Miller) on the dance-floor. Even worse, when he does meet Paulina, she icily tells John she hopes he has come to the studio to seriously study dance and not to look for a date. But, as his lessons continue, John falls in love with dancing. Source: Wikipedia.

Anne Hathaway

Long before she became Catwoman in Batman the Dark Night Rises, I already loved Anne Hathaway. When Anne was a princess in 2001 Disney’s The Princess Diaries, I already had both eyes on this girl.

Yes, my dear. One Oscar and one Golden Globe later, at age 31 (she was born on November 12, 1982), Anne is more stunning than ever. Read more about her on Wikipedia.
