The Wizard of Oz: Over the Rainbow

wizard

“Over the Rainbow” (often referred to as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”) is a classic Academy Award-winning ballad, with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. It was written for the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, and was sung by actress Judy Garland in her starring role as Dorothy Gale. It soon became her signature song, and one of the most enduring standards of the 20th century. About five minutes into the film, Dorothy sings the song after failing to get her aunt and uncle to listen to her relate an unpleasant incident involving her dog, Toto, and the town spinster, Miss Gulch. Dorothy’s Aunt Em tells her to “find yourself a place where you won’t get into any trouble.” This prompts Dorothy to walk off by herself, musing to Toto, “‘Some place where there isn’t any trouble.’ Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It’s not a place you can get to by a boat, or a train. It’s far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain…” at which point she begins singing.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can’t I?

The “Over the Rainbow” sequence, as well as the entirety of the Kansas scenes, was directed by King Vidor, though he was not credited. The song was initially deleted from the film after a preview in San Luis Obispo, because MGM chief executive Louis B. Mayer and producer Mervyn LeRoy thought it “slowed down the picture” and that “the song sounds like something for Jeanette MacDonald, not for a little girl singing in a barnyard.” However, the persistence of associate producer Arthur Freed and Garland’s vocal coach/mentor Roger Edens to keep the song in the picture eventually paid off. Let’s twist: Pulp Fiction Dance Scene

pulpfiction

We already knew John Travolta could dance. He discoed and hand-jived his way to stardom in Saturday Night Fever and Grease. But in the 1980s Travolta’s career fizzled and we sort of forgot about him because — let’s be honest, here — we have pretty short attention spans. But in 1994, Travolta made his comeback in Quentin Tarantino’s stylized crime film Pulp Fiction. His smooth, understated twists to Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell” were so cool, we hardly noticed his weight gain and thinning hair. If we were coked up Uma Thurman, we’d let our Mob-boss boyfriend set us up with John Travolta any day. Source text: Time – Top 10 Movie Dance Scenes.

Behind Blue Eyes” is a song by English rock band The Who. It was released in November 1971 as the second single from their fifth album Who’s Next and was originally written by Pete Townshend for his Lifehouse project. The song is one of The Who’s most well known recordings and has been covered by many artists. “Behind Blue Eyes” was covered by American nu metal group Limp Bizkit. It was released in November 2003 as a single from their album Results May Vary. Limp Bizkit’s arrangement is notable for featuring a Speak & Spell during the bridge. The music video features Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry. It contains scenes from the motion picture, Gothika, in which Berry stars. It depicts Berry and Durst in a relationship similar to the storyline of the film. Source: Wikipedia.

Listen Limp Bizkit – Behind Blue Eyes (midi)

No one knows what it’s like
To be the bad man
To be the sad man
Behind blue eyes

And no one knows what it’s like
To be hated
To be fated
To telling only lies

But my dreams, they aren’t as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That’s never free

Game of Thrones: The Musical

coldplay-got-cast

When you play the game of thrones, you sing or you die.

Coldplay, NBC, and the cast of Game of Thrones have teamed up to make a pretty hilarious musical version of the hit HBO fantasy drama. Or rather, a “making-of” style mockumentary as part of a larger charity effort.

It’s pretty entertaining to watch a spirited acoustic trio with Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon,) Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen,) and Myranda (Charlotte Hope,) or listen to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lanister) sing the first “romantic incest ballad” of Coldplay’s career.

jaime-ballad

tyrion-blues

Emilia Clark (Danaerys Targaryen) actually has a pretty nice singing voice, we discover, as she sings a reggae-stylee jam about the Khaleesi. Meanwhile, Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) is a natural on the mic, singing a Wild Thing rendition with lyric changes you should be able to guess, while winking goofily at Rose Leslie (Ygritte.)

The entire thing was done as part of Red Nose Day’s effort to raise money to fight childhood poverty. Source text: Forbes.

Evanescence – My Immortal

Click here to listen this song (midi cortesy Dream Gifs)

“My Immortal” is a song by American rock band Evanescence from their debut studio album Fallen (2003). It was released by Wind-up Records on December 8, 2003 as the third single from the album. The song was entirely written by guitarist Ben Moody, with the exception of the bridge, which was later written by lead singer Amy Lee, and it was produced by Dave Fortman.

“My Immortal” was included on their EP release Mystary (2003) and on the demo album Origin (2000). The version originally from Origin was later included on Fallen. The single version of the song was called “band version” because of the additional band performing the bridge and final chorus of the song. “My Immortal” is a piano rock song written in slow and free tempo. Moody was rumored to have been inspired to write it after the death of his grandfather. Lyrically, it talks about “a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won’t leave you alone.”

MY IMMORTAL

I’m so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
‘Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won’t leave me alone

These wounds won’t seem to heal, this pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now, I’m bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

These wounds won’t seem to heal, this pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone
But though you’re still with me, I’ve been alone all along

When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
You still have all of me, me, me

Nickelback – Far Away

Click here to listen this song (midi cortesy Dream Gifs)

“Far Away” is a single by Canadian band Nickelback. Released in late 2005/early 2006 in the United States and February 13, 2006 in the United Kingdom. It was released as the fourth U.S. single of All the Right Reasons, but the second in Europe. “Far Away” peaked at #8 in the United States, making All the Right Reasons the only Nickelback album to date to have more than one top ten hit.

The band’s lead singer and guitarist Chad Kroeger described this song on the Tour when in Australia as the “only real love song” that Nickelback has. He described many others as “being about love” but not solely about “being in love”. The music video for “Far Away” was first shown on VH1’s V-Spot. Filmed at Green Timbers Park in Surrey, British Columbia just outside Vancouver, the video starts with a couple in bed, when a cellphone rings and the husband is forced to leave. It is revealed that he is a firefighter, and has been called to help fight a forest fire. Source: Wikipedia.

FAR AWAY

This time, this place misused, mistakes
Too long, too late, who was I to make you wait?
Just one chance, just one breath
Just in case there’s just one left
‘Cause you know you know, you know

That I love you I have loved you all along and I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you’ll be with me and you’ll never go
Stop breathing if I don’t see you anymore

On my knees, I’ll ask last chance for one last dance
‘Cause with you, I’d withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I’d give it all I’d give for us
Give anything, but I won’t give up
‘Cause you know you know, you know

So far away, so far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away, so far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

I wanted, I wanted you to stay
‘Cause I needed, I need to hear you say
That I love you, I have loved you all along
And I forgive you, for being away for far too long
So keep breathing, ’cause I’m not leaving
Hold on to me and never let me go
Keep breathing, ’cause I’m not leaving you anymore
Believe it, hold on to me and
Never let me go, keep breathing
Hold on to me and never let me go (Keep breathing)
Hold on to me and never let me go
