The sixth season of the fantasy drama television series Game of Thrones was ordered by HBO on April 8, 2014, together with the fifth season, and premiered on April 24, 2016. In contrast to the previous seasons, it largely consists of original content not found in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
The Winds of Winter
No. 610. Title: The Winds of Winter. Directed by Miguel Sapochnik. Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss. Original Air Date: June 26, 2016. Sinopse: Before her trial can commence, Cersei destroys the Sept of Baelor with wildfire; among the dead, the High Sparrow, Margaery, Mace and Loras Tyrell, Pycelle, and Lancel and Kevan Lannister. Horrified, Tommen throws himself off a balcony to his death. Davos confronts Melisandre over her complicity in the burning of Shireen Baratheon; Jon banishes her from Winterfell. Sansa learns of Littlefinger’s plans for her as the new Lady of Winterfell. Following their victory, the Wildlings, the Knights of the Vale and the surviving Houses of the North pledge loyalty to Jon Snow as the new King in the North. Following a banquet with Jaime, Walder Frey and two of his sons are murdered by Arya. Sam and Gilly reach the Citadel in Oldtown. Bran sees a vision from inside the Tower of Joy: Ned finds his dying sister Lyanna, and takes her newborn son as his bastard. Daenerys says goodbye to Daario and makes Tyrion as her Hand. After aiding Olenna Tyrell and the Martells to ally against Cersei, Varys returns to Meereen, just as Daenerys sets sail for Westeros with Tyrion, the Greyjoys, the Insullied, the Dothraki and her dragons.
In King’s Landing
On the day of Cersei’s and Loras’ trial, the High Sparrow and many of the city’s elite gather at the Great Sept of Baelor. Loras is brought forward and confesses to his homosexuality and begs to atone by giving up his name and titles as the heir of House Tyrell, and joining the Faith Militant. However, Cersei fails to appear to the trial, and the High Sparrow sends Lancel to retrieve her. Meanwhile, Qyburn lures Pycelle into his chambers, and watches as his “little birds” stab Pycelle to death. Lancel discovers a massive cache of wildfire stored underneath the Great Sept (placed there by the Mad King decades before), but is stabbed and crippled by one of the “little birds”.
HIGH SPARROW: Ser Loras Tyrell. Are you prepared to stand trial and profess your guilt or innocence before the Seven?
LORAS: There’ll be no need for a trial. I confess before the Seven and freely admit to my crimes.
HIGH SPARROW: To which crimes will you be confessing?
LORAS: All of them. I lay with other men including the traitor Renly Baratheon. I perjured myself before the gods. I am guilty of depravity, dishonesty, profligacy, and arrogance. I see that now. I humble myself before the Seven and accept whatever punishment the gods deem just.
HIGH SPARROW: The gods’ judgment is fierce, but also fair. The Warrior punishes those who believe themselves beyond the reach of justice. But the Mother shows her mercy to those who kneel before her.
LORAS: I take full responsibility for my many sins and unburden myself of my desires. My only remaining wish is to devote my life to the Seven. May I be a living example of their grace for others to witness.
HIGH SPARROW: You understand fully what this means?
LORAS: I do. I will abandon the Tyrell name and all that goes with it. I will renounce my lordship and my claims on Highgarden. I will never marry and I will never father children.
HIGH SPARROW: Brother Loras I ask you to dedicate your life to the seven gods. Will you fight to defend your faith against heretics and apostates?
LORAS: I will.
MARGAERY: You mutilated him. You gave me your word.
HIGH SPARROW: And I have kept my word. Once the queen mother’s trial is concluded, Brother Loras is free to leave.
MARGAERY: And where is the queen mother?
LANCEL: Her litter never left the Red Keep.
HIGH SPARROW: It appears the queen mother doesn’t wish to attend her own trial. Go to the Red Keep and show her the way.
QYBURN: Please, Grand Maester. I bear you no ill will. Please forgive me if you can. This pains me, my lord. Whatever your faults, you do not deserve to die alone in such a cold, dark place. But sometimes before we can usher in the new, the old must be put to rest.
