Mother’s Mercy

Episode s05e10: Mother’s Mercy. Directed by David Nutter. Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss. Original Air Date: June 14, 2015. Sinopse: Jon sends Sam, Gilly and her child to Oldtown for Sam to become a maester. Selyse hangs herself and half Stannis’ army deserts him. As Stannis prepares for the siege, they are attacked and defeated by the Boltons. Brienne finds Stannis alive and apparently kills him. Sansa manages to escape her room and is caught by Myranda, who is killed by Reek before he and Sansa jump off the castle’s wall. Cersei finally confesses to her sins and is forced to walk naked to the Red Keep as the people of the city shout at her. She is received by a new member of the Kingsguard: Ser Robert Strong. Jaime, Myrcella, Bronn and Trystane sail away from Dorne. After Myrcella tells Jaime that she knows she is his daughter, her nose starts bleeding, having been poisoned by Ellaria. Using a face from the House of Black and White, Arya infiltrates the brothel Ser Meryn is in and kills him after revealing her identity. Jaqen commits suicide to appease the Many-Faced God, though the waif points out that “Jaqen” never really existed. Because Arya put on a face without being “No One”, she goes blind. In Meereen, Varys arrives and starts to rule the city with Tyrion, Grey Worm and Missandei, while Daario and Jorah go on a mission to find Daenerys, who, far away, is found by a large number of Dothraki riders. At Castle Black, a group of brothers, including Alliser and Olly, partake in a mutiny where they each stab Jon, whom they view as a traitor for saving the wildlings, and leave him to die. Across the Narrow Sea

With Daenerys missing after having flown away on Drogon, her followers are left unsure of what to do in her absence. Daario and Jorah decide to leave Meereen to search for Daenerys, while Tyrion stays behind to govern the city in her absence with the help of Missandei and Grey Worm.

Tyrion: You love her, don’t you? How could you not? Of course it’s hopeless for the both of you. A sellsword from the fighting pits, a disgraced knight. Neither one of you is fit consort for a queen. But we always want the wrong woman.
Daario: Does he always talk so much?
Grey Worm: Jorah the Andal.
Jorah: Torgo Nudho.

Grey Worm: He should not be here.
Daario: No, but he is.
Grey Worm: Our queen ordered him exiled from city.
Daario: Our queen would be dead if not for him.
Missandei (speaking Valyrian): It’s true. And I would be dead if not for the little man.
Tyrion (speaking Valyrian): Dwarf, I belief that’s the world. Apologies. My Valyrian is a bit nostril.
Missandei (speaking Valyrian): A bit rusty.
Tyrion: Puñila. Thank you.
Grey Worm: I am sorry. Sorry I not there to fight for our queen.
Daario: You missed a good scrap.
Jorah: None of that matters now. The longer we sit here bantering, the longer Daenerys is out there in the wilderness.
Tyrion: He’s right. The dragon headed north. If we’re going to find her, that’s where we’ll have to go.
Jorah: We? You’re a Lannister. The queen intends to remove your family from power.
Tyrion: And I intend to help her do it.
Jorah: You’ve been here for how many days now? I’ve fought for her for years. Since she was little more than a child.
Tyrion: You betrayed her.
Jorah: Careful now.
Tyrion: And she exiled you. Twice, I believe.
Jorah: The second time thanks to you.
Tyrion: Don’t blame me for your crimes, Mormont.
Daario: He’s right. Our queen exiled Jorah. And he’s right. Jorah saved her life. Perhaps she feels differently about him now. Perhaps not. The only way we’ll know is if we ask her.
Tyrion: Fine, fine. I suppose he can join us. Just as long as he promises not to kill me in my sleep.
Jorah: If I ever kill you, your eyes will be wide open.
Daario: Forgive me, but why would we bring you?
Tyrion: Pardon me?
Daario: Have you ever tracked animals in the wilderness?
Tyrion: Not precisely, but I have other skills that would be useful.
Daario: Can you fight?
Tyrion: I have fought. I don’t claim to be a great warrior.
Daario: Are you good on a horse?
Tyrion: Middling.
Daario: So mainly you talk.
Tyrion: And drink. I’ve survived so far.
Daario: Which I respect, but you would not help us on this expedition. You would help us here in Meereen, though. None of us have experience governing a city except for him. You want to prove your value to the queen? Prove it right here in Meereen.
Jorah: He’s a foreign dwarf that barely speaks the language. Why would the Meereenese listen to him?
Daario: They wouldn’t. They will listen to Grey Worm.
Grey Worm: I’ll come with you. I’ll find our queen.
Missandei: You are not strong enough to go anywhere.
Grey Worm: I am.
Daario: He is. He’s the toughest man with no balls I ever met. But you still can’t go. The people believe in you. They know you speak for the queen.
Misandei: It’s true. Only the Unsullied can keep the peace in Meereen. If you leave, half this city will consume the other half.
Daario: And Missandei. Our queen trusts no one more than Missandei. Certainly not me. The queen’s closest confidante, the commander of the Unsullied, and a foreign dwarf with a scarred face. Good fortune, my friends. Meereen is ancient and glorious. Try not to ruin her. Looks like it’s you and me, Jorah the Andal. Let’s find some good horses. We have so much to talk about.

As Tyrion watches Jorah and Daario leave, he ponders his next move when Varys suddenly appears, giving him some advice by comparing Meereen’s current state to that of King’s Landing, much to Tyrion’s delight.

Varys: Hello, old friend. I thought we were so happy together until you abandoned me.
Tyrion: I suppose there’s no point asking how you found me.
Varys: The birds sing in the west, the birds sing in the east, if one knows how to listen. They tell me you’ve already found favor with the Mother of Dragons.
Tyrion: Well, she didn’t execute me, so that’s a promising start. Now the heroes are off to find her and I’m stuck here trying to placate a city on the brink of civil war. Any advice for an old comrade?
Varys: Information is the key. You need to learn your enemy’s strengths and strategies. You need to learn which of your friends are not your friends.
Tyrion: If only I knew someone with a vast network of spies.
Varys: If only. A grand old city choking on violence, corruption, and deceit. Who could possibly have any experience managing such a massive, ungainly beast?
Tyrion: I did miss you.
Varys: Oh, I know.
