Hardhome

Episode S05E08: Hardhome. Directed by Miguel Sapochnik. Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss. Original Air Date: May 31, 2015. Sinopse: Cersei refuses to confess her sins. Qyburn informs her that Pycelle has sent for Kevan to serve as the King’s Hand, and that “the work continues”. Arya assumes the identity of Lana, an oyster seller. Jaqen tells her to learn everything about a man who takes wagers on whether or not ships arrive at their destinations, and then poison him. Olly asks Sam why Jon trusts the wildlings, to which Sam replies that he has no other choice; otherwise they don’t stand a chance against the army of the dead. Sansa asks Reek why he told Ramsay about her escape plans, and he says there is no escape. He then finally reveals that he faked the deaths of her younger brothers. Ramsay suggests to his father that they move on Stannis and asks for twenty good men. In Meereen, Tyrion convinces Daenerys to spare Jorah’s life and exile him again. Jorah instead goes back to Yezzan and asks permission to fight in the pits. Daenerys accepts Tyrion into her council. Arriving at Hardhome, Jon and Tormund manage to convince about five thousand wildlings to come back with them, showing them the dragonglass and offering them lands south of the Wall. Hardhome is suddenly attacked by an army of wights, and Jon and the other rangers help defend it. A White Walker attacks Jon, but is killed by Jon’s Valyrian steel-sword. As Jon, the other rangers and the wildlings sail away, they witness the Night’s King reanimating the deceased wildlings who rise from the dead as wights. Source: Wikipedia.

At Hardhome

Arriving at Hardhome, Jon Snow, Tormund, and a group of Night’s Watch brothers meet with the Lord of Bones, who has become the de facto leader of the wildlings. After a tense standoff, Tormund kills the Lord of Bones and orders his advisors to gather the elders, including Wildling leader Karsi. At the meeting, Jon shares the dragonglass with the wildlings, telling them how Sam killed a White Walker with a dragonglass dagger. Jon offers to allow the wildlings to farm the lands south of the Wall, if they will aid the Night’s Watch in the coming war against the White Walkers. When asked what became of Mance Rayder, Jon admits that he killed him. Outraged, the assembled wildlings move to kill Jon, but Tormund is able to calm them by explaining that Jon killed Mance out of mercy. After more discussion, Jon and Tormund are able to convince the most of the wildlings to come with them, though the Thenns, lead by Loboda, refuse to join them.

Tormund: You trust me, Jon Snow?
Jon: Does that make me a fool?
Tormund: We’re fools together now.

Tormund: Lord of Bones. Been a long time.
Lord of Bones: Last time I saw you, the little crow was your prisoner. The other way around now. What happened?
Tormund: War.
Lord of Bones: War? You call that a war? The greatest army the North has ever seen cut to pieces by some southern king.
Tormund: We should gather the elders, find somewhere quiet to talk.
Lord of Bones: You don’t give the orders here.
Tormund: I’m not giving an order.
Lord of Bones: Why aren’t you in chains?
Tormund: He’s not my prisoner.
Lord of Bones: No? What is he?
Jon: We’re allies.
Lord of Bones: You fucking traitor. You fight for the crows now?
Tormund: I don’t fight for the crows. We’re not here to fight. We’re here to talk.
Lord of Bones: Is that right? You and the pretty crow do a lot of talking, Tormund? And when you’re done talking, do you get down on your knees and suck his cock?

Jon: My name’s Jon Snow. I’m Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. We’re not friends. We’ve never been friends. We won’t become friends today. This isn’t about friendship. This is about survival. This is about putting a 700-foot wall between you and what’s out there.
Karsi: You built that wall to keep us out. Since when do the crows give two shits if we live?
Jon: In normal times we wouldn’t. But these aren’t normal times. The white walkers don’t care if a man’s free folk or crow. We’re all the same to them, meat for their army. But together we can beat them.
Karsi: Beat the white walkers? Good luck with that. Run from them, maybe.
Jon: It’s not a trick. It’s a gift for those who join us. Dragonglass. A man of the Night’s Watch used one of these daggers to kill a walker.
Loboda: You saw this?
Jon: No. But I trust the man.
Karsi: There are old stories about dragonglass.
Loboda: There are old stories about ice spiders as big as hounds.
Karsi: And with the things we’ve seen, you don’t believe them?

Jon: Come with me and I’ll share these weapons.
Karsi: Come with you where?
Jon: There are good lands south of the Wall. The Night’s Watch will let you through the tunnel and allow your people to farm those lands. I knew Mance Rayder. He never wanted a war with the Night’s Watch. He wanted a new life for his people, for you. We’re prepared to give you that new life.
Karsi: If?
Jon: If you swear you’ll join us when the real war begins.
Loboda: Where is Mance?
Jon: He died.
Loboda: How?
Jon: I put an arrow through his heart.
Tormund: Hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.

Loboda: I say we send the Lord Commander back to Castle Black with no eyes.
Tormund: Hey, none of you saw Mance die. I did. The southern king who broke our army, Stannis, wanted to burn him alive to send us a message. Jon Snow defied that cunt’s orders. His arrow was mercy. What he did took courage. And that’s what we need today, the courage to make peace with men we’ve been killing for generations.
Karsi: I lost my father, my uncle, and two brothers fighting the damn crows.
Jon: I’m not asking you to forget your dead. I’ll never forget mine. I lost 50 brothers the night that Mance attacked the Wall. But I’m asking you to think about your children now. They’ll never have children of their own if we don’t band together. The Long Night is coming and the dead come with it. No clan can stop them. The free folk can’t stop them. The Night’s Watch can’t stop them. And all the southern kings can’t stop them. Only together, all of us. And even then it may not be enough, but at least we’ll give the fuckers a fight.
Karsi: You vouch for this man, Tormund?
Tormund: He’s prettier than both my daughters, but he knows how to fight. He’s young, but he knows how to lead. He didn’t have to come to Hardhome. He came because he needs us and we need him.
Loboda: My ancestors would spit on me if I broke bread with a crow.
Karsi: So would mine, but fuck ’em, they’re dead. I’ll never trust a man in black. But I trust you, Tormund. If you say this is the way, we’re with you. Tormund: This is the way.
Elder Leader: I’m with Tormund. We stay here, we’re dead men. At least with King Crow, there’s a chance.
Wun Wun: Tormund.
Loboda: Keep that new life you want to give us. And keep your glass, King Crow. As soon as you get on his ships, they’re gonna slit your throats and dump your bodies to the bottom of the Shivering Sea. That’s our enemy. That has always been our enemy.
Karsi: I fucking hate Thenns.
