Across the Narrow Sea

In Meereen, Ser Barristan tells stories about Rhaegar Targaryen to Daenerys. Daenerys leaves to attend to Hizdahr zo Loraq, who repeats his request to reopen the fighting pits. In the streets, several members of the Sons of the Harpy attack some civilians. A group of Unsullied, lead by Grey Worm, respond to the panic and it’s revealed to be a trap, as they’re outnumbered by the Sons of the Harpy. In the ensuing battle, a majority of the Unsullied are slaughtered and Grey Worm is injured before Ser Barristan arrives to assist him. Though Barristan slays dozens of the Sons of the Harpy, they gang up on him and he is stabbed multiple times. Barely defeating his attackers, Grey Worm manages to save Barristan from having his throat slit and the two collapse next to each other, surrounded by dead Unsullied and Sons of the Harpy.

Hizdahr: All men must die, but not all can die in glory.
Daenerys: Glory?
Hizdahr: Why else do men fight? Why did your ancestors cross the Narrow Sea and conquer the Seven Kingdoms? So their names would live on. Those who find victory in the fighting pits will never become kings, but their names will live on. It’s the best chance they’ll ever have.
Daenerys: Is that what you used to tell men before you set them to butchering each other for sport?
Hizdahr: Your Grace, today is the traditional start of the fighting season.
Daenerys: I do not recognize this tradition.
Hizdahr: Traditions are the only thing that will hold this city, your city, together. Without them, former slaves and former masters have nothing in common. Nothing but centuries of mistrust and resentment. I can’t promise this is the answer to all our problems, but it’s a start.
